MB Police and Fire Fishing Tournament The Miami Beach Police and Fire Fishing Festival
have included PAL as one of the recipients of their event along with
the Miami Burn Center. Take Your Child to Work Day
Miami Beach PAL girls under 12 Basketball Team
are the champions.
On Tuesday, May 1, 2007, PAL Board Member Matt
Krieger and the Law Firm of Bratter/Krieger, will be hosting its 2nd
annual fundraiser for the Miami Beach PAL (Police Athletic League).
The event will take place between 5:30pm-8:00pm at Nikki Beach (Penrods – One
Ocean Drive) and will feature both a live and silent auction, hosted
by “Mr. Miami Beach”, Michael Aller, in addition to many
raffle prizes.
20th Annual MBPAL Baseball Tournament
20th Annual Miami Beach PAL Baseball Tournament
held February 13-16, 2007. Championship game winner Miami Senior High
School. Runner-up Varela High School. Final score 11-3. Most Valuable
Player awarded to Kenny Socorro from Miami Senior High School.
The Great EsSkate donated $3,000 to PAL. YDC kids assist with their annual fundraiser and will assist again in February.
PAL Team First in Sunshine Games The Sunshine State Games is Florida's own Olympic-style
sports festival created for amateur athletes of all ages and skill
levels. The Sunshine State Games premier event, the 2006 Summer Games,
was held in Miami-Dade County, June 15-18, 2006. More than 5,000
athletes competed in 24 sports during the five-day competition.
Jerome McDougle Youth Football Clinic On Saturday, June 24, the First Annual Jerome
McDougle Youth Football Clinic was held. Over 200 youth from Miami
Beach, Miami, and Key West PALs attended and had a great experience.
Each participant was given a t-shirt and lunch. Information on anti-gang,
tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana was distributed to each child and talked
about by the NFL players. Dhani Jones and Jonathan Vilma were in attendance.
During lunch, Omar Carillo, a Miami-Dade police officer, who assisted
McDougle when he was shot, was presented an autrographed football.
PAL Board Meeting and Awards at Mango's This February the Miami Beach PAL held their
board meeting at Mango's Tropical Cafe, where awards were given out
to thanks those that make PAL possible.

Youth Football Clinic to benefit the Miami Beach and Miami PALs.
Dellutri Family Foundation Holiday Party On Saturday, December 17, the Dellutri Family Foundation held their annual Holiday Party at Sal's Abatement in Miami. There was a DJ, petting zoo, and two bounce houses along with free hamburgers, hot dogs, snow cones, and cotton candy. At the end of the day each kid received a toy. The Miami Beach YDC helped staff the event. 39 PAL kids attended and had a great time. Training was held at the Miami Beach Police Department on October 14, 2005. Seven Miami Beach Police Department Personnel were trained in implementing the Science on Patrol program. The course targets youngsters who would like to become Junior Crime Scene Detectives, learning how to solve crime scenes using forensic science. It was sponsored by the Miami Beach PAL. hosted their annual Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway, donating 450 baskets
of food to low income Miami Beach Families. The baskets were filled
with a turkey, canned goods, fruit, and everything else that a wonderful
Thanksgiving dinner would need. Lots of cans were donated by the students
of Miami Beach Feeder Pattern schools. On Saturday, August 13, Miami Beach PAL took 50 children and chaperones to the University of Miami Convocation Center for a morning of fun with Shaq and Dwane Wade sponsored by Nestle's Crunch. PAL was given 185 tickets by Board Member Steve Stowe who works for the Miami Heat Foundation and Miami Beach PAL President Ken Stowe. Tickets not used by our PAL were distributed to other local PALs including North Bay Village, Florida City, and Miami. A great time was had by all. Mark Fitzpatrick - Buffalo PAL, Norman Weber - Plant Manager of American Axle and Manufacturing While meeting with National PAL Board Members in Buffalo, NY, Bernie attended a fundraiser for Buffalo PAL. While there, he couldn't pass a trip to the Hall of Fame Induction of Dan Marino in Canton, OH. SurfBalBay PAL Pancake Breakfast Miami Beach PAL supported Pancake Fundraiser on July 30, 2005, to help support recently established SurfBalBay PAL. Joey Daoud, PAL Kid, was invited to the set of Director Brett Ratner's next movie X-Men 3. Ratner grew up on Miami Beach and is a Beach High Alumni and Hall of Fame Inductee. The film is being filmed in British Columbia and Joey spent a week there observing the filmmaking process. Joey will be majoring in film directing at Florida State University where he will be an incoming freshman. 4th Annual Back to School Fair What started out as an Eagle Scout project for Joey Daoud in 2002 has turned into an annual affair. On Friday, July 29, 2005, the 4th Annual Back to School Fair took place. 500 book bags filled with notebook paper, duo-tang folders, composition books, spiral notebooks, glue sticks, rulers, pens, pencils, highlighters, scissors, erasers, crayons/colored pencils, and bookmarks were distributed. Also, the four branches of the military donated bumper stickers and pencils that were included in the bookbags. Along with that, children were able to select books that were donated by Scholastic Inc. to take home, read, and pass on to their friends. At the end of the day there was a barbeque where hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks were given to everyone who attended. A big thanks goes to the following organizations who made this day possible:
National PAL Youth Leadership Conference From July 10 - 15, four Miami Beach PAL youth and two advisors from the Miami Beach YLC traveled to the Second Annual National PAL Youth Leadership Conference in Washington D.C., made possible by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. After learning about the latest crime prevention and youth service activities in the morning, the afternoons were reserved for sightseeing and learning about our nation's capital. There was even a march of all the youth groups to the Capitol where each PAL meet with their respective congressmen. To further take advantage of this excellent opportunity, the Miami Beach YLC representatives went to Georgetown and Mt. Vernon for the remaining two days of the trip. Pictures3rd Annual Junior Police Academy The Miami Beach Police Department and PAL sponsored the third annual Junior Police Academy which took place during July 11- 22, 2005. The fifteen students from local elementary schools who participated in the program were issued complete sets of uniforms and provided with lunch and snacks daily. The class was given instruction in patrol procedures, investigative techniques, SWAT training, Marine Patrol, Juvenile/gangs, and other functions of the Police Department. They were also given course instruction on the evils of alcohol, tobacco and drugs. There was also a field trip to the Dade-County courthouse where they received an overview on how the court system works. The highlight of the program was the Team Ropes Adventure Challenge at Florida International University. The ropes course focuses on human development, group dynamics, and enrichment through group and individual challenges. Our students learned new skills through involvement in a series of adventure-based activities that provide training in leadership and team building development, communication and problem solving skills. Jose Urbizo, in center, started as a Miami Beach Police Explorer at the age of 14. For the past several years he has worked as a Public Safety Specialist for the North Miami Police Department. On July 22, 2005, Jose graduated from the Police Academy and will now be a sworn police officer with the city of North Miami. Congratulations Jose! National PAL Male Youth of the Year Miami Beach's Joey Daoud has been named the 2004 Male Youth of the Year by the National Association of Police Athletics Leagues. He was recently honored at a banquet in Palm Springs California, which was also attended by Elizabeth and Ed Smart. Joey volunteered over 1500 hours of community service throughout his high school career, which was only three years. An Eagle Scout, he organized the annual Backpack Giveaway, which as to date donated over 1100 backpacks to underprivileged kids. Joey will be attending the Florida State University Film School in the fall, and was accepted into the FSU Community Service Scholar Program to continue his commitment to community service. On June 4, the Miami Dolphins and Rotary Club of Broward participated in a Fishing Day with 20 PAL kids. The children were given fishing rods and reels, tackle box, tackles and shirts. More pictures here.5900 DNA Kits given to elementary school kids in Miami Beach Feeder Pattern. 15th Annual Clevelander Golf Tournament The 15th Annual Golf Tournament was held at International Links Miami - Melreese Golf Course. Though rained out after the thriteenth hole, the 120 golfers had a great time and several thousand dollars was raised for our youth programs. The Miami Beach PAL had a concession stand at the Boat Show selling hamburgs, hot dogs, and refreshments. The stand raised several thousand dollars for PAL programs.
